My mom and I found ELM on Facebook for a intensive ballet program summer of 2014 . We reached out to the number and left a message the next day a lady called us and gave us all the information . That same day there was a class and I was able to go and participate and I have been with Elm ever since .
I use dance as a medium .
My favorite memory with Elm is when we all went shopping after dance class for or outfit . It was for our winter showcase .
Elm is important in my life because it has helped me to build confidence and try new things . I was very shy before but now I have alot of new friends and family . I'm not scared to push myself to try new things and preform on stage . I can be Megan at dance when we make jewlery and do art I can speak my mind and my feelings. It really is like a family everyone helps out and makes sure I can go to a event or class I don't miss out because my mom on bed rest and can't take me like before . So you even learn how to trust others. My biggest challenge has been standing up for myself when I was being bully at school . But I was able to use my voice and speak up I defended myself spoke with my parents and Vice Principal and counselor at my school . By the end of the school year the same kids who would bully me wanted to be my friends so I was a big girl about it and we Became friends . I got to do a dance with one of them in my school and some even came to see me dance at the Elm winter show case .
Elm has taught me that sometimes it's not that someone dislike you or hates you, sometimes that person is going threw big problems or others are afraid to trust and have friends or maybe jealous but it doest mean you have to treat them the same . You can be the bigger person and then they see you are a really good friend .
The biggest thing that jazz has taught is that we all have a voice . And Shydee thought that I can do anything I want without doubting myself .
My favorite memory growing up is going to Walt Disney with my family and spending the holidays in Florida with my Family .
Well I was only four years old then but my neighborhood is changing alot I remember this big white house in front of my building they would decorate for the holidays and it was there even when my Dad aunts and uncle were little and now it is gone there is construction everywhere in front of my building to the right of my building down the block even at my school .
If I could ask God one question it would be how is it really in heaven ?
I can't name one person let's just say my Parents they always support me in any and every way .
If I could change one problem in the world it would be animal cruelty I love animals . If I could I would have programs all over the world to shelter them and care for them . From big animals like giraffe and elephants to amphibiois and dogs cats insect birds every animal because we are all living on the earth and have to care for our world the land and animals the air for one another .
My favorite smell is homemade food . It will always remind me of how I come home from school and dinner is done I am thankful to have my mom and both my Grandma they all cook always cook early and you can smell it coming up the stairs it make me feel at home and thankful .
One thing I like about myself I love everything about myself I love me .
I am very proud that I have my Dad Angel Collazo and my Mariana Collazo they got married in May 2005 and then I was born in June 2006 I have been the only child all of these years and now I am expecting to be a big sister in November 2015 to my Baby brother .
I made a portrait of my cat Laila and I love it because it represents a part of me and I made from the heart I am working on one for my dog oreo
Christina Perri thousand years
The My immortal because it was dedicated to my Grandpa Luis Mojica and my Dance partner Kassandra Soto brother Pee-wee we dance a duet to it at the winter showcase shydee push us hard to practice and it was worth it I was able to dance for my Grandpa in heaven and my family and friends I was so scared to dance on stage Jazz walk me on stage but when the music played I was ready to dance and ever since I love the stage not scared .
Do it you will love it .
I'm 18 years old I got started in elm by a friend that I know name Rolando and he talked about the program a lot and he told me to stop by to check it out and I did I'm in the hip hop group I create, rap, Sing and so on. My favorite Memory is when we all get together as a team to get ready for a show I think elm is important because it teaches us so many different things and it allows us to be ourselves which I think is very important My biggest challenge I've had to face is being able to be independent especially when your having hard time trying to find a job It teaches me that in order to make something out of your selves you have to work hard One thing that I learn from jazz and my team .... Is that jazz taught me so many different things especially to believe in yourselves and never settle for less because we all have a gift and that type of gift that we have ... Many people would die for it My neighborhood changed a whole lot... Before there was a lot of people out side hanging out ... And now all you hear is silence ... The buildings look a whole lot different If I could ask God one question it would be ... Why do I have to go through all these things ? One person that had the greatest influence in my life is ... Biggie smalls ... Why ? Because he was the true meaning of hip hop... He lived in the hood and was born in the hood he didn't have it all ... His father was never around... His mother was sick ... And he still made something out of his self ... He reminds me of myself ... If I had one problem that I could change ... It would be gentrification My favorite smell is that smell of new sneakers lol One thing that I really like about myself is that ... I'm not the type of person to judge people One thing that I'm proud of when it comes to family is ... The cooking ... My family taught me to cook since I was young Something I work on ... Is music and I love it because people could actually relate to it ... And it gives them life Feel it in the air - by me lol The book ... The great gatby ... Because it teaches us so many different lessons and how money can change people and how "love" isn't always love because sometimes people use you for your love One advice I would give them ... Is simply ... Just go for it ... If you really love what you do and no matter how many people doubt you ... Just go for it and prove people wrong
I am 17 years old. My girlfriend Ruthy introduced me to ELM and showed them my writing pieces and ever since then I started working with elm and I'm in the hip hop program doing more Spoken word. I think elm is very important because it gives the younger youth a chance to be themselves. There is no judgement in elm . Elm accepts you the way you are and that is very important because no one feels left out or uncomfortable. Elm is a family The biggest challenge I faced in life was being thrown out of my house It taught me to be a stronger person and it also taught me that bad doesn't last forever there's great days to come The biggest thing I learned from jazz was to always be honest and never hold back on what you feel. My favorite memory of growing up is growing up with my little brothers and baby sister. They made my childhood amazing My neighborhood has changed in a good way , all of the gangs and violence decreased and a lot of love started to grow . My question to God would be , what's your plan for me ? Ruthy has been a big influence in my life , because she taught me that not everyone has the same heart as you and she also showed me bravery and what real love is I would change racism and to change it I would start of with schools and teach kids that everyone is different and looks different and that's okay because what we all have that's the same is feelings , and acceptance is an amazing feeling. My favorite smell is the smell of my grandmother who passed away about 3 years ago . Sometimes I smell her scent out of random and it reminds me of the times I would go to her house when I was a kid and we would have a big dinner and enjoy each other's company I really like that I can write down my feelings and touch people's hearts with it Im proud of the long lasting relationships on my dads side of the family . I worked on a writing piece called taking it back and I love it because it shows struggle but strength at the same time "There's no such thing as a life that's better than yours" j cole The great gastby , I just recently seen it and it changed my perspective on people and it changed my trust for others My advice would be do what you feel and who cares what people say or think . It's your life do what makes you happy .

I'm 16 years old - I found ELM through an old teacher of mine which led me to Jaz and it was the best decision of my life. - I'm in the Hip Hop program - I usually watch tv, read books, documentaries and talk to people to create my lyrics and all. One of my best Performances was at the Feel The Vibe event. The experience and the crowd connections were just so perfect and honestly a dream come true.
ELM is important thing because we're doing something positive with and to our community. We're helping people with dreams and we're connecting with many people. Just the word "community" is what symbolizes ELM. - Connecting with people who are young and being mindful of what you do and say. It taught me to watch what I say and to teach the right things to young intellects. We have to teach the right things for a better tomorrow. - Well from what I learned which is most important "It takes a village to raise a child".
My favorite memory growing up was my first rap and creating my first verse. It was so unexpected cause I didn't think I can do it. Great question. It has changed so much. New buildings. New people. I don't mind the people. It's the buildings that cost so much for people who can't afford to live there. And too many people getting kicked out. "Can I have the ability to travel through time?" -War but there's nor any solution to war because it would always be there. - The smell of my fathers cologne, it reminds me of a simple time before a lot of things started happening in my life. - I'm very confident when it comes to my music, and I can think of things that rarely anyone ever thinks of. - I'm proud to be indigenous and proud to be an Ecuadorian & Dominican adolescent. I'm proud that I'm mixed and I have 2 amazing cultures that is very interesting. - I worked on my first music project which I love because I was just beginning to find my real music style. And it was really fun reciting verses that worked on before and finally had the chance to record them. - "Critics judging my verses like what is the meaning/ I ascended from Open-Minded and my mind still changes like the seasons" - Joey Bada$$'s lyric from Paper Trails really impacted me, he said "They say money is the root of all evil I see money as the route of all people Cause we all follow paper trails, paper trails And everybody gotta pay their bills, pay their bills (x2)" - Do what you love and have fun. Find what you like and proceed with what you do.
- one day I was sitting outside with my mom, has came out they started talking she invited me to see the class and the week after that I joined
dance dance moves favorite memory ? don't have one To be exact. but at the moment probably the photoshoot elm is important because it helps keep the youth off the street and away from gang activity biggest challenge : being alone it taught me that you don't need anyone to succeed because they can pull you back that all lives matter no matter your race, nationality, skin color, etc fav memory growing up ; seeing the progress I've went through from the young years to now I moved recently so idk but my last neighborhood changed because many Jews took over the whole block. they started tearing down buildings and kicking people out that have lived there for years for white college students why he took my brother at such a young age? my mom because she guides me through life I would try to stop the violence. violence is getting out of hand it's scary just to step out your door and to not worry about getting shot stabbed or even robbed the beach all the times I've gone to the beach with my sister attitude that even though my mom didn't finish high school I like the fact that she pushes us to finish so we won't fall in her foot steps well I used to make small edits for my amusement. I liked doing that because it gave me power like the finished product wouldn't exactly be the best but as I continued progress was made idk to join the program share new experiences with us. express yourself through mc, dance, or even painting. She wants to go by Kassie

Grew up in an era where every where we went we heard " It takes a Village to Raise A Child" Where has that feeling gone. Being a mother myself i work hard everyday to build community as i know it should be, places my son could feel comfortable, places he can get support and just the feeling of acceptance in general. Which brought me to Express Your Self Barista :) This place is the most welcoming of cafes I've been to Thus far, the ambiance is amazing and it brings a sense of family to the table of comfortability they already offer. Ron the owner from Express Yourself has extended his Dj expertise to our Youth group and rocked out the show for their very 1st showcase giving them a boost of confidence by supporting their craft along with his expertise. I cant thank him enough for being a positive role model in their lives and for being a part of a Village in the making..
